Healing, Self-Forgiveness & Releasing Old Patterns: The Inner Work of the Ascension Framework™

Healing isn't about becoming someone new. It's about releasing what keeps you from fully experiencing who you already are.

Spiritual awakening can be beautiful.

It can open the door to deeper intuition, profound insights, synchronicities, expanded awareness, a greater sense of purpose, and a feeling that life is far more meaningful than you once realized.

But awakening can also bring something else to the surface:

the parts of yourself that still need healing.

This is where many people become confused.

They begin a spiritual journey expecting to feel more peaceful, more connected, and more joyful. Instead, old emotions surface. Patterns become obvious. Relationships begin changing. Memories return. Fears that seemed buried suddenly become impossible to ignore.

Sometimes you may even find yourself thinking:

“I thought I already healed this.”

You may have.

You may simply be encountering another layer.

Within The Ascension Framework™, healing, self-forgiveness, and releasing old patterns are not separate from spiritual awakening.

They are part of the journey.

The Framework describes spiritual growth as seven interconnected stages:

Discovery → Awakening → Purification → Transformation → Integration → Service → Ascension

And although the stages can be described individually, the journey itself is not a straight staircase.

It is a recursive spiral.

You may discover something, awaken to it, purify what surrounds it, transform your relationship with it, integrate the lesson, express what you've learned through service, and experience expansion—only to encounter another layer of yourself later.

That isn't failure.

That's growth.

What Does Healing Actually Mean?

The word healing can mean many different things.

For some people, healing means physical recovery.

For others, it means emotional healing, trauma recovery, repairing relationships, grieving, forgiving, changing beliefs, balancing energy, or reconnecting with a sense of purpose.

Within the Ascension Healings model, healing is primarily about restoring greater alignment within yourself.

It is the process of becoming aware of the places where fear, pain, conditioning, attachment, resentment, shame, or old patterns have separated you from the person you are becoming.

Healing doesn't require you to pretend that something never happened.

It doesn't require you to approve of what happened.

It doesn't require you to forget.

And it doesn't necessarily mean that every painful experience suddenly feels good.

Healing can simply mean that the experience no longer controls you in the same way.

You can remember without reliving.

You can acknowledge without becoming consumed.

You can understand without excusing.

You can forgive without reopening a relationship.

You can move forward without pretending the past didn't matter.

That is a profound form of freedom.

Awakening Reveals What Needs to Be Healed

One of the paradoxes of spiritual awakening is that becoming more conscious can initially make life feel more difficult.

Why?

Because awareness reveals things that were previously hidden.

Imagine walking into a dark room.

The furniture was already there.

The boxes were already there.

The things you had forgotten were already there.

Turning on the light didn't create the mess.

It allowed you to see it.

Awakening can work in a similar way.

You may become aware of:

  • Emotional patterns you've repeated for years

  • Relationships that no longer feel aligned

  • Fear that has been influencing your decisions

  • Resentment you've carried

  • Guilt about the past

  • Difficulty trusting yourself

  • A need for control

  • Fear of rejection or abandonment

  • Self-sabotaging behaviors

  • Limiting beliefs

  • Old identities

  • Unresolved grief

  • Ways you've been judging yourself

This is one reason the Purification stage of The Ascension Framework™ can feel uncomfortable.

You are not necessarily becoming more broken.

You may be becoming more aware.

And awareness creates a choice.

Purification: The Stage Where Old Patterns Surface

Purification is sometimes misunderstood as though you need to somehow become spiritually “clean.”

That's not what we mean.

You are not inherently dirty, broken, or unworthy.

Purification is about clearing what no longer needs to define you.

As your awareness expands, old patterns can become easier to recognize.

You might suddenly realize:

“I've been doing this my entire life.”

Or:

“I keep attracting the same situation.”

Or:

“Every time this happens, I react the same way.”

Or:

“I thought the problem was everyone else, but I can see my part now.”

These realizations can be uncomfortable.

But they can also be incredibly empowering.

Because once you can see a pattern, you have the possibility of changing it.

What Are Old Patterns?

An old pattern is a repeated way of thinking, feeling, responding, behaving, or relating that continues operating even when you consciously want something different.

Some patterns are obvious.

Others are subtle.

You may repeatedly choose emotionally unavailable people.

You may constantly put everyone else's needs ahead of your own.

You may avoid conflict at all costs.

You may become defensive whenever someone criticizes you.

You may feel responsible for fixing everyone around you.

You may constantly seek external validation.

You may sabotage opportunities when they begin going well.

You may hold yourself to impossible standards.

You may expect people to leave and therefore push them away first.

You may use control as a substitute for trust.

You may continually punish yourself for something that happened years ago.

The details differ from person to person.

The underlying principle is the same:

Something from the past is influencing the present.

Why Do Old Patterns Keep Returning?

Because awareness and transformation are not the same thing.

You can intellectually understand a pattern without being ready to release it.

You might know:

“I shouldn't care what other people think.”

But still feel devastated when someone disapproves of you.

You might know:

“I need to let go of control.”

But still try to control every outcome.

You might know:

“I deserve healthy relationships.”

But continue choosing familiar dynamics.

This is where spiritual growth becomes deeper than simply acquiring information.

The goal isn't merely to know better.

It is to experience differently.

That takes practice.

And sometimes it takes healing.

Self-Forgiveness Is a Major Part of the Journey

One of the most powerful forms of healing is also one of the most difficult:

forgiving yourself.

Many people can understand the idea of forgiving someone else.

But when it comes to themselves, they become merciless.

They replay mistakes.

They revisit conversations.

They think about what they should have said.

They wonder what they should have done.

They judge decisions they made years ago using knowledge they only gained afterward.

And they quietly carry a sentence against themselves:

“I should have known better.”

But here's something worth considering:

You made that decision with the awareness you had at the time.

You were the person you were at the time.

You didn't yet know what you know now.

The fact that you would make a different choice today is evidence of growth.

Self-Forgiveness Does Not Mean Excusing Yourself

This distinction matters.

Self-forgiveness isn't:

“Nothing I did mattered.”

It isn't:

“I wasn't responsible.”

It isn't:

“Everyone else was wrong.”

And it isn't:

“What happened doesn't matter anymore.”

Self-forgiveness can instead mean:

“I acknowledge what happened. I accept my responsibility where responsibility belongs. I understand that I was operating from the awareness I had at the time. I choose to learn from it rather than continue punishing myself for it.”

There is a tremendous difference between accountability and self-punishment.

Accountability asks:

What can I learn?

Self-punishment asks:

How long can I make myself suffer?

Only one of those creates growth.

The Person You Were Is Not the Person You Are

Think about who you were ten years ago.

Now think about who you were twenty years ago.

You may barely recognize certain aspects of yourself.

Your beliefs changed.

Your priorities changed.

Your relationships changed.

Your understanding changed.

Your awareness changed.

So why should you expect the person you were years ago to possess the consciousness you have today?

Growth means you eventually outgrow versions of yourself.

That doesn't mean you need to hate those versions.

They were part of the journey.

In fact, some of the things you most regret may have contributed to the person you eventually became.

This doesn't make the painful experience good.

It means you have the power to transform its meaning.

Releasing a Pattern Doesn't Mean Erasing the Memory

This is another important distinction.

You may remember something for the rest of your life.

Healing doesn't necessarily erase the memory.

What changes is the relationship you have with it.

Before healing, a memory may produce:

fear → reaction → emotional overwhelm → repeated behavior

After healing and integration, the same memory may produce:

awareness → understanding → choice → peace

The event didn't change.

Your relationship with the event changed.

That is one of the deepest forms of transformation.

Healing Doesn't Always Mean Forgiving Someone

Forgiveness is often misunderstood as something you do for another person.

But forgiveness can be entirely internal.

You can forgive someone and still maintain a boundary.

You can forgive someone and never speak to them again.

You can forgive someone without saying that what they did was acceptable.

You can forgive someone without trusting them again.

You can forgive without reconciling.

Sometimes forgiveness simply means:

“I refuse to keep carrying this.”

You don't have to give someone access to you in order to release the emotional grip of what happened.

Boundaries and forgiveness can coexist.

The Difference Between Forgiveness and Reconciliation

Forgiveness concerns what happens within you.

Reconciliation concerns what happens between people.

They are not the same.

You can release resentment without restoring a relationship.

You can wish someone well from a distance.

You can understand why someone behaved the way they did without allowing the behavior back into your life.

This is especially important for people who have spent years confusing love with self-abandonment.

Healing does not require you to tolerate behavior that harms you.

Sometimes the most loving thing you can do—for yourself and another person—is create distance.

The Ascension Framework™ and the Healing Cycle

Healing touches every stage of the Framework.

Discovery: “Something is wrong.”

You begin noticing a recurring pattern.

Awakening: “I can see it now.”

You recognize what has been happening.

Purification: “I'm ready to face it.”

The emotions, beliefs, and experiences underneath the pattern begin surfacing.

Transformation: “I can choose differently.”

You stop automatically repeating the old response.

Integration: “This is becoming who I am.”

The new response becomes increasingly natural.

Service: “What I've learned can help someone else.”

Your experience becomes wisdom that can be shared.

Ascension: “There is another layer.”

You discover that growth continues.

And then the spiral begins again.

Healing and the Recursive Spiral

This is why the recursive nature of The Ascension Framework™ matters so much.

Imagine that you heal a deep pattern around rejection.

You feel free.

Years later, another situation triggers something that feels strangely familiar.

At first, you might think:

“Why am I dealing with this again?”

But perhaps this isn't the same lesson.

Perhaps it is a deeper layer.

The first experience may have taught you how to recognize rejection.

The next may teach you how to stop rejecting yourself.

The next may teach you that you don't need external approval.

The next may teach you to remain connected to yourself even when someone else doesn't understand you.

The theme appears similar.

But your consciousness has expanded.

This is why spiritual healing can feel cyclical.

You aren't necessarily going in circles.

You may be moving in a spiral.

Healing Is Not a Race

There is no prize for healing faster than someone else.

There is no spiritual leaderboard.

And there is no requirement to have every wound resolved before you are worthy of love, purpose, or service.

Sometimes healing happens quickly.

Sometimes it takes years.

Sometimes you understand something intellectually long before you are emotionally ready to release it.

Sometimes you think you have completely moved through something and then discover another layer.

Allow the process to unfold.

You don't need to force yourself to forgive before you're ready.

You don't need to manufacture acceptance.

You don't need to pretend you're okay.

Awareness itself can be a form of progress.

Sometimes the first step is simply being honest:

“This still hurts.”

That's not failure.

That's awareness.

What Happens When We Don't Release Old Patterns?

Patterns tend to repeat.

Not because the universe is punishing you.

Not because you're broken.

But because familiar responses are often easier for the mind and nervous system to reproduce than unfamiliar ones.

You may continue choosing what feels familiar even when it isn't healthy.

You may recreate dynamics you've consciously said you don't want.

You may respond to today's situation using yesterday's wounds.

This is why awareness matters.

You cannot choose differently if you don't recognize what you're doing.

The Framework gives you a way to ask:

“What is this experience showing me about myself?”

That question can change everything.

From Reaction to Response

One of the clearest signs of healing is the space between what happens and what you do next.

Something happens.

The old pattern says:

React.

The healed response says:

Pause.

That pause is powerful.

In the pause, you can ask:

  • Is this actually happening now?

  • Or is this reminding me of something from the past?

  • What am I feeling?

  • What story am I telling myself?

  • What am I afraid will happen?

  • What do I actually need?

  • What response reflects the person I want to be?

That is transformation.

Not because you never feel triggered again.

But because the trigger no longer automatically gets to drive the vehicle.

Where Energy Healing Can Support the Process

Healing is multidimensional.

There can be emotional layers.

Mental layers.

Relational layers.

Physical experiences.

Spiritual questions.

Energetic experiences.

At Ascension Healings, we use energy healing and Reiki as supportive practices for people who want to slow down, reconnect with themselves, become more present, and explore their own energetic experience.

Reiki isn't about forcing healing to happen.

It can instead create a space in which the person can become more receptive to what is already unfolding within them.

Sometimes what someone needs most isn't another answer.

It's a quiet space in which they can finally hear themselves.

You can explore our Reiki and Energy Healing services if you feel called to experience this work personally.

Where QHHT Can Support Deeper Exploration

For some people, healing questions lead into deeper questions about consciousness.

Why am I here?

Why do I have this recurring pattern?

What is the purpose of this experience?

Why do certain relationships feel so significant?

What can I learn from my life?

What is my purpose?

What lies beneath the surface of my conscious awareness?

QHHT can provide a framework for exploring these questions through a deeply relaxed hypnotic state.

At Ascension Healings, we approach QHHT as an exploration of consciousness and personal experience rather than attempting to impose a predetermined interpretation.

The experience belongs to the individual.

What matters is what they discover and how they choose to integrate it.

Where Spiritual Coaching Fits

Sometimes you already know what needs to change.

You just haven't figured out how to move from awareness to action.

This is where spiritual coaching can become valuable.

Coaching can provide space to examine:

  • Repeating patterns

  • Limiting beliefs

  • Life direction

  • Relationships

  • Boundaries

  • Purpose

  • Personal responsibility

  • Self-forgiveness

  • Integration

  • Aligned action

The purpose isn't for someone else to dictate your path.

It's to help you become more conscious of the path you're already choosing.

Healing Is Not About Becoming “High Vibration” All the Time

There is another trap worth discussing.

Spiritual language can sometimes create pressure to avoid anything considered negative.

You must stay positive.

You must raise your vibration.

You must forgive immediately.

You must love everyone.

You must never be angry.

You must always be peaceful.

But suppressing an emotion isn't the same thing as healing it.

Anger can contain information.

Grief can contain love.

Fear can reveal what matters to you.

Sadness can reveal what you've lost.

Frustration can reveal a boundary.

The goal isn't to eliminate the human emotional experience.

The goal is to become conscious enough to listen to it without allowing it to control your entire life.

You don't have to become emotionless to become spiritually aware.

You become more capable of being with what you feel.

Your Wounds Don't Have to Become Your Identity

One of the most powerful shifts in healing is moving from:

“This is who I am.”

to:

“This is something I experienced.”

There is a difference.

You may have experienced abandonment.

That doesn't mean you are abandoned.

You may have experienced betrayal.

That doesn't mean you are destined to be betrayed.

You may have experienced failure.

That doesn't make you a failure.

You may have made mistakes.

That doesn't make you a mistake.

You may have lived through trauma.

That does not mean trauma is the entirety of your identity.

Your experiences are part of your story.

They are not necessarily the author of your future.

What Does It Mean to Truly Release a Pattern?

Releasing a pattern doesn't mean you will never encounter the same situation again.

It means you no longer have to respond to it from the same place.

The situation may still occur.

The person may still behave the same way.

The memory may still exist.

But something inside you has changed.

You don't need the same reaction.

You don't need the same defense.

You don't need the same story.

You don't need to repeat the same cycle.

This is what makes healing so powerful.

You aren't necessarily changing the past.

You're changing what the past is allowed to create in your future.

Healing Leads to Transformation

This is why Purification cannot be separated from Transformation within The Ascension Framework™.

Awareness reveals the pattern.

Healing creates space around it.

Transformation changes the response.

Integration makes that new response part of your life.

Eventually, what once required tremendous conscious effort can become natural.

You no longer have to constantly remind yourself:

“Don't do that.”

You simply don't need to do it anymore.

That is integration.

And Eventually, Your Healing Can Become Service

Something beautiful can happen when you move through your own healing.

You become capable of recognizing it in others.

Not because you have all the answers.

Not because you've become perfect.

But because you've been there.

You understand what it feels like to question yourself.

You understand what it feels like to face something painful.

You understand what it feels like to forgive yourself.

You understand what it feels like to release an identity you've carried for years.

Your experience becomes empathy.

Your experience becomes wisdom.

Your experience becomes compassion.

And that can become service.

This is one reason Service follows Integration within The Ascension Framework™.

We don't serve from the wounds we haven't acknowledged.

We serve most powerfully from the wisdom we've integrated.

The Healing Question

When something difficult happens, instead of immediately asking:

“Why is this happening to me?”

try asking:

“Why is this happening for me?”

That doesn't mean every painful experience was deliberately created for you.

It doesn't mean you are responsible for everything that happens.

It doesn't mean suffering is somehow good.

It means you have the ability to choose what you do with your experience.

Perhaps it is showing you a boundary you need to establish.

Perhaps it is revealing an old fear.

Perhaps it is showing you where you don't trust yourself.

Perhaps it is asking you to let go.

Perhaps it is revealing where you've been abandoning yourself.

Perhaps it is simply asking you to grieve.

Or perhaps the answer isn't clear yet.

That's okay too.

Sometimes healing begins with the question long before the answer arrives.

A Simple Practice for Releasing an Old Pattern

The next time you notice yourself reacting strongly to something, pause.

Take a breath.

Then ask yourself:

1. What am I feeling?

Name the emotion without judging it.

2. What happened immediately before I felt this?

Identify the trigger.

3. Does this feeling seem larger than the present situation?

If so, there may be an older layer involved.

4. What story am I telling myself?

Notice the belief underneath the emotion. Is it even your own belief or one you took on in a vulnerable or suggestible part of your life?

5. What am I afraid of?

Fear often reveals what the pattern is trying to protect.

6. What do I actually need right now?

The answer may be a boundary, rest, honesty, communication, space, support, or simply compassion for yourself.

7. What would I choose if I weren't responding from the old pattern?

This is where Transformation begins.

And finally:

8. Can I give myself permission to choose differently?

You don't have to get it perfect.

You simply have to practice.

You Are Allowed to Become Someone Different

You are not obligated to remain the person you had to become to survive your past.

You are allowed to change.

You are allowed to outgrow relationships.

You are allowed to establish boundaries.

You are allowed to forgive yourself.

You are allowed to stop repeating patterns.

You are allowed to change your beliefs.

You are allowed to choose peace.

You are allowed to become more authentic.

And you are allowed to discover that some of the things you once believed about yourself simply aren't true anymore.

This is the heart of transformation.

Healing Within the Ascension Framework™

Healing isn't a detour from spiritual awakening.

Healing is part of awakening.

Discovery helps you notice.

Awakening helps you see.

Purification helps you face.

Transformation helps you choose.

Integration helps you embody.

Service helps you express.

Ascension helps you expand.

And then the spiral continues.

A new Discovery.

A deeper Awakening.

Another layer of Purification.

Another opportunity for Transformation.

Deeper Integration.

Expanded Service.

Greater Ascension.

Not because you weren't healed the first time.

Because consciousness continues to expand.

You Don't Have to Heal Everything Today

Perhaps the most compassionate thing you can remember is this:

You don't have to heal your entire life today.

You don't have to forgive everyone.

You don't have to understand every experience.

You don't have to release every pattern.

You don't have to figure out your entire purpose.

You don't have to reach some imaginary spiritual finish line.

You only have to work with what is asking for your attention now.

One pattern.

One realization.

One choice.

One breath.

One act of self-forgiveness.

One boundary.

One moment of awareness.

That's enough.

Because every conscious choice changes the trajectory of the spiral.

The Past Can Be Part of Your Story Without Being Your Future

Your past matters.

It shaped you.

It taught you.

It hurt you.

It may have strengthened you.

It may have confused you.

It may have caused you to develop patterns that once protected you.

But your past does not have to dictate what comes next.

Healing doesn't require rewriting history.

It requires changing your relationship with history.

Self-forgiveness doesn't erase responsibility.

It releases the need for endless punishment.

Releasing old patterns doesn't erase who you were.

It gives you permission to become who you're capable of being.

And spiritual awakening doesn't mean leaving your humanity behind.

It means bringing greater consciousness into it.

The Next Turn of the Spiral

If you are currently going through a period where old emotions, memories, patterns, or relationships are resurfacing, don't automatically assume you've gone backward.

Ask yourself:

What am I seeing now that I couldn't see before?

What is asking to be released?

Where am I being invited to forgive myself?

What pattern no longer belongs to the person I'm becoming?

What choice is available to me now?

That may be the next turn of your spiral.

And you don't have to know exactly where it leads.

You only have to take the next conscious step.
