The Empath’s Energy Survival Kit: 7 Daily Practices to Stop Absorbing Others’ Emotions
If you’ve been on this awakening journey for a while, you’ve probably noticed how energetically sensitive you’ve become. Crowded places, certain people, or even a simple conversation can leave you feeling exhausted, anxious, or emotionally heavy, and you know deep down those feelings aren’t all yours.
I’ve been there. During my own early ascension phases, I absorbed so much from others that I thought something was wrong with me. Once I understood what was going on and started treating my energy field like the sacred temple it is, everything changed. I stopped leaking my power and started holding my own high vibration more consistently.
This Empath’s Energy Survival Kit contains 7 simple, doable practices you can weave into your day. They build on the cleansing and grounding work we’ve talked about before, but go deeper into daily protection so you can stay open-hearted without getting overwhelmed.
1. Morning Shielding Visualization (2–3 minutes)
Start your day by creating a protective bubble. Sit or stand comfortably, close your eyes, and imagine a beautiful sphere of golden-white light surrounding your entire body and aura. See it as flexible yet strong—allowing love and light in while gently repelling dense or heavy energies. Say silently or out loud: “I am protected. Only love and light may enter my field.” Do this every morning and feel the difference by afternoon. As you progress you can add whatever parameters make sense to you, for example if you are a medium, you may want those types of energies to have access to you so that you can help people in that line of work.
2. Quick Cord-Cutting Practice
Throughout the day, especially after interactions, check in: “Is this emotion mine?” If not, visualize energetic cords connecting you to the person or situation, then use imaginary scissors or Archangel Michael’s sword to cut them with love. Follow it with: “I release what is not mine. I return to my own peaceful energy.” This takes less than a minute once you get the hang of it.
3. Grounding with Earth & Breath
When you feel yourself starting to absorb, place your bare feet on the earth (or imagine roots growing from your feet deep into the ground). Take slow, deep breaths—inhale peace, exhale anything that no longer serves you to be transmuted into love. This simple act pulls your awareness back into your body and drains away what doesn’t belong. Want to take it a step further? Get a free Root Chakra guided meditation to help you ground.
4. The “Observe, Don’t Absorb” Mantra
Train your mind with this powerful phrase. When you notice yourself picking up someone’s anger, sadness, or anxiety, silently repeat: “I observe, I do not absorb. I am safe in my own energy.” It creates an instant boundary while keeping your heart open.
5. Energy Self-Scan & Release
At the end of the day (or after big interactions), do a quick body scan. Sit quietly, run your awareness from head to toe, and ask: “What am I carrying that isn’t mine?” Breathe it out or visualize it dissolving into light. Follow with a short Reiki self-treatment if you know how, hands on heart and solar plexus work wonders. I you are not familiar with Reiki, another great tool is sage or palo Santo. Smudge yourself after interactions with the outside world and keep your energy clean!
6. Protective Crystal Carry
Keep a small black tourmaline, smoky quartz, or shungite in your pocket or bra. Before leaving home, hold it and set the intention: “Protect my energy field today.” These stones act like energetic bodyguards and are affordable and easy to find.
7. Evening Energy Reset Ritual
End your day with a shower (building on the shower tips I shared earlier) while imagining all foreign energy washing away. Or do a salt bath when you can. Finish by smudging yourself and your space, then affirm: “I release the day. My energy is clear, balanced, and mine alone.”
These practices aren’t about closing off from the world, they’re about staying sovereign so you can actually help others from a full cup instead of an empty one.
If you’re a sensitive soul feeling the intensity of these ascension energies right now, please know you’re not alone and nothing is wrong with you. Your gifts are needed, and learning to manage them is part of the beautiful upgrade.
Try adding just one or two of these to your routine this week and notice how much lighter you feel.
